The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
