Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced anger after Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be arrested and punished "through capital punishment" following their release of a disputed video.

The Message That Sparked the Debate

The video footage, released on earlier this week, includes six Democratic elected officials who in the past served in defense or defense capacities.

"As we did, you all made an pledge to defend and support this national charter," the lawmakers stated in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution don't only come from abroad, but from right here at home. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can refuse illegal orders, you should reject illegal orders. No one has to execute directives that break the statutes or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Angry Reply

The recorded statement appeared to trigger a furious response from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he declared: "This constitutes really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives Respond

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Democratic leadership issued a joint announcement censuring the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no place in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our country with tremendous national pride and honor. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's appalling and harmful threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in touch with security officials "to ensure the security of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay remove these unhinged online messages and withdraw his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the declaration continued.

Officials' Defiant Reaction

The representatives who appeared in the video also published a response.

"We identify as former service members and defense specialists who care for this country and swore an vow to defend and uphold the national charter of the United States," they stated. "This commitment continues forever, and we aim to honor it. No warning, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will stop us from that fundamental obligation."

"The most revealing aspect is that the president views it punishable by death for us to reiterate the statutes," they stated. "Our service members should understand that we have their support as they carry out their vow to the founding principles and responsibility to adhere to only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."

They continued: "Every American must join forces and censure the former president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Partisan Comments

The Senate Democratic leader also denounced Trump's statements and published on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is requesting the capital punishment of public representatives."

He added: "This is an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, all citizens – regardless of party – should censure this immediately and absolutely."

The Conservative official justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", labeling the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "It is very dangerous, you have leading members of the government telling soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is historic in US history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly told media outlets that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the crime of treason" but that "legal experts have to analyze the wording and establish all that."

White House Statement

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when asked by a media member, "Does the president want to put to death congressional representatives?", the administration spokesperson answered: "No."

"It's important to note about what the former president is responding to," the spokesperson said. "There are sitting members of the US Congress who conspired to orchestrate a video message to personnel of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to ignore the president's legal commands."

She stated: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in casualties, it can cause chaos, and precisely what these elected officials ... are fundamentally supporting."
