Nearly 25,000 Left Without Power in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Intense Weather Systems

Around 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland woke up experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems passed over the region, bringing strong winds topping 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Widespread Damage

Residents witnessed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were working to restore energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, around one thousand households in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after Melbourne experienced its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams handled nearly 600 emergency reports across the region, mainly for building damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity predicted across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the current weather patterns.
