Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just seven months following instigating derogatory chants aimed at their manager, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road finished through agreement this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
