Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
