Baroque Works is poised to play a huge role in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, though the true confrontation isn’t set to occur until the third season, and a cherished, fan-favorite member has just been cast.
The streaming service revealed this week that the skilled actor has joined the One Piece upcoming season’s lineup and will embody Mr. 2. This character can use their power to morph into an exact copy of anyone they’ve made contact with with their right hand. The performer, who is non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, will depict a version of that character re-envisioned as non-binary, rather than as a drag performer, in the real-life adaptation, as in the initial comic and anime.
Escola will work alongside a number of new cast members tasked with bringing Baroque Works to life, featuring leader the main antagonist, brought to life by the well-known actor, an emerging star as Miss Goldenweek, and a familiar face, who is also part of the ensemble as the ruler of the desert kingdom.
Although Bon Clay is a major member of the group, the persona won’t appear until One Piece season 3. Considering the second season set to cover the Little Garden arc, this represents a major departure in the schedule of their first appearance, one that could indicate further changes to the story’s structure.
Escola’s blend of precise humor and deep sensitivity makes them a ideal selection for the part. Besides their recent voice performance in the youth-focused cartoon movie Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and several accolades for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, highlighting the versatility they’ll bring to one of One Piece’s widely praised roles.
The streaming service’s real-life One Piece program is due to premiere for its season two on March 10, 2026.
