US Law Enforcement Disclose Apprehension in Thwarted New Year's Eve Bomb Scheme Close to Southern California

Federal agents announced on Monday that they had effectively disrupted a detailed plot to set off explosive devices at multiple facilities run by two corporate companies on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The move came after the apprehension of individuals associated with an extremist faction advocating for anti-capitalist and anti-government ideologies.

Those Arrested Detained During Desert Rehearsal

Four people were detained last Friday in the Mojave Desert found east of Los Angeles at the time they were reportedly practicing their proposed attack. Prosecutors presented aerial monitoring images to reporters, which depicted the individuals carrying a large black item to a workspace. Authorities noted that the detainments occurred ahead of the individuals could assemble a working IED.

Details of the Suspects Released

Based on the public criminal complaint, the four individuals identified are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Page, 32; Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. All four are reportedly from the Los Angeles region.

Alleged Motivation and Group Affiliations

Even though prosecutors did not clearly outline a motive, they said the group are adherents of a offshoot dubbed the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The group allegedly calls for "laborers to revolt and combat against the capitalist system," as per the criminal complaint.

They face involve plotting and possession of a bomb. The government indicated that more counts are anticipated in the coming weeks.

Elements of the Reported "The Midnight Sun Plan"

Prosecutors revealed that one of the individuals had created a detailed blueprint last month to attack five or more commercial sites across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The targets were characterized as "similar to Amazon" distribution centers.

"This scheme was specific," a prosecutor stated. "It included a precise guide to build IEDs … and listed several objectives across Orange county and Los Angeles."

According to the case and the complaint, the plot called for placing backpacks packed with sophisticated explosive devices that were set to be detonated all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five locations. New Year's Eve was identified as an opportune time because the plan stated "celebratory explosions will be going off at this time so explosions will be harder to be heard."

The eight-page manually written blueprint, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," noted that further sites could be added. The locations were described as property and buildings operated by two separate corporations tied to operations related to interstate and foreign commerce.

Future Plots and Proof Uncovered

The investigation also revealed that two individuals in the faction had talked about subsequent strikes aimed at immigration enforcement agents and vehicles with pipe bombs in 2026. One suspect allegedly commented that such actions "would take some of them out and intimidate the rest of them."

The plotting were reportedly talked over both at an physical gathering in Los Angeles and through an private messaging app.

Images contained in the court documents reveal a remote camp with what investigators described as explosives-manufacturing items laid out on makeshift work surfaces.

The filing states that the individuals "each brought explosive materials to the campsite, including assorted sizes of plastic pipes, identified as a chemical compound, fuel, fuel powder, sulfur powder, and components to be used as igniters, and more."

The plan also included steps on how to construct the bombs and how to prevent leaving traces that could be traced back to the group. The suspects had not long ago obtained chemical ingredients and other materials, with acquisitions from online retailers.

Arrest and Follow-up

Federal agents moved in last week while the group were rehearsing the operation in the desert near a desert community. "They had everything they were necessary to make an functional explosive device at that location," the prosecutor commented.

As part of carried out search warrants, authorities allegedly found posters for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's home that demanded "Down with America", and "ICE Must Go". At another suspect's residence, police discovered a copy of the detailed explosives scheme.

Those arrested were arrested without incident. They were scheduled to face a judge in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
