White House Accused of Attack on Free Speech Following UK Reporter Detained

A leading Islamic civil liberties organization has alleged the current government of a clear affront to freedom of expression” after national immigration authorities held British journalist Sami Hamdi this past Sunday.

This body stated that Hamdi was held at San Francisco airport due to condemning the Israeli current military operations in the Gaza Strip. The journalist is one of several people who have been arrested and removed by federal agents for expressing pro-Palestine opinions.

DHS officials stated that Hamdi’s visa had been canceled, and that he was in custody “awaiting deportation.”

UK reporter Sami Hamdi was reportedly detained on Sunday morning by border officials at San Francisco international airport, and the organization asserts that action is apparent retaliation for the Islamic political commentator’s statements of Israeli actions while visiting the US.

Comments from the organization described it was “an obvious insult to free speech” to arrest Hamdi for condemning Israel’s current military campaign in Gaza while he was involved on a US tour. Officials stated in a different statement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
